Philippians 4:4-7

We are all in desperate need of peace.  Bible says, God is the God of peace.  Peace is often a neglected attribute of God.  God is never worried or anxious; He’s always at perfect peace.  God offers us His peace- Jesus said My peace I leave with you.  This passage tells us how we can experience the peace of God.

​We all admire people who are generous, and every one of us wants to be generous; no one wants to be a scrooge.  There is something compelling about generosity.  God is generous to us so that we can be generous to others.  God blesses us so that we can be blessed and so that we can be a blessing.

​Deep in the human heart is a longing for peace.  We want peace in our homes, we want peace in our minds, and we want peace in our hearts.  But peace does not come from without, peace comes from within.  Paul tells us it is the result of what we think and the result of how we live.

​The church at Philippi was a great church.  It was founded by the apostle Paul.  It endured persecution and remained faithful to Christ.  But even in this great church there was conflict between two members threatening to disrupt unity and fellowship of church.  Here Paul gives us some principles for resolving conflict among believers.

Paul says I want to be everything Jesus saved me to be.  God did not save you so you can stay the same, He saved you to transform you to be like Jesus.  So often we are tempted to look to our past and miss out on what God wants to do in the present.  Paul explains how to not let the past paralyze us, but rather let the future propel us.

Philippians 2:19-24

​aul describes the humility of Jesus in His incarnation, in His life as a servant, and in His death for our sins.  Then Paul says live out that same submissive and humble spirit in your lives.  We are tempted to say, “Paul that’s impossible- Jesus is God in flesh, I’m just a sinner.”  But Paul assures us God has given you all the resources you need to live with humility, and then Paul gives us several examples of what real Christ-like humility looks like in our lives.
