Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 9:1-27 In Chapter 8 Paul say we are free in Christ, but make sure your freedom is guided by love. In other words, put the greater priority of people over the lesser priority of stuff. Then in chapter 9 he illustrates his point by saying as their pastor he had the right to receive a salary, but he gave up that right for the greater goal of seeing people saved. Chapter 9 is not an interruption, it is an illustration of liberty guided by love, of sacrificing our freedom for the greater priority of spreading the gospel.

Sermon by: Steve Kern 2 Kings 4:38-44 Many would say that the greatest crisis in the world is the 9 million people who die from starvation each year, but there is a greater crisis: more than 45 million people die each year while being spiritually starved. When God used Elisha to miraculously feed his servants and 100 other people, he showed us 3 principles that we can apply to help stop the greatest crisis in the world. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 The most important ethical question is always what does the Bible say? But if the Bible does not forbid certain behavior, we are free to do it. But Paul says there is another question we should ask, is it helpful? There are a lot of things we are free to do, but that does not mean we should do them. Love is to be our guiding principle. It is more important for us to display our love than it is to display our freedom. |
