AWANA

We have been getting ready and are so excited to kick off the 2018-19 AWANA year with your family! The AWANA program is designed to give families a tool to disciple their kids for Christ and we have so many excited and committed leaders ready to help you and your kids this year.  We have a few new things this year, so here are the details you need to know:
  1. First night of club is Wednesday, September 12th from 6:15pm-7:45 pm. K-5th check-in in the gym at 6:00 PM and Pre-school- check-in in B102 at 6:00 PM (next to the gym)
  2. Online Registration- We have online registration this year. Please register online prior to the first night of club so I can add you to our check-in system. You can also pay online as well! This will help make the first night of club smooth and easy for you whenever you want! There will still be tablets to register with when you come at 6:00 PM the first night if did were not able to do it before hand. Registration link: AWANA
  3. Secure Check-in/ Check out-  We will also be using a new check-in system this year for AWANA. It is the same process we use on Sunday mornings and we are now adding it to AWANA as well. We can type in your child's name or scan your QR code from your phone (I will send that through e-mail once you have registered) and it will print a name tag for your child with emergency contact info on it and we will provide you with a check out code (or you can use your QR code) for check-out. Check-out for Cubbies will be in B102, Sparks will be in B203, and T&T will be in the multipurpose room (follow the signs for all of them- they will be clearly marked).
  4. Parent Meeting- We will be having a meeting for ALL AWANA parents on the first night of club from 7:00 pm-7:30 pm upstairs in B201 (up the stairs by the gym and first door on the left). This will be an important meeting for all parents as we will be going through the AWANA program purpose and design, what we expect from our leaders, clubbers, and parents. We want to come along side your family to help you disciple your kids for Christ and would love to further explore ways we can help.
  5. Parent Handbook- Here is an AWANA Parent Handbook as well for you to look through and see what each club is about as well as see other information about the year. Our Calendar of events is in there as well so you can see what the schedule will be for the year.

Please feel free to e-mail, call, or text with any questions or additional information. We are so excited to help your families disciple your kids for Christ and to help them understand what a great and mighty God we serve!

Youth Fall Newsletter

I hope you all had a great summer. We took 33 students to camp, and saw God work in incredible ways in the lives of our students. We celebrated 2 professions of faith and 3 decisions for baptism. Several of our youth are actively serving in other ministries at Shoreline on Sunday mornings such as Preschool, Children’s, and Worship Ministries. A large number of students also helped out at VBS which saw 200+ kids throughout the week. We are very excited about the spiritual growth of students in our youth group and cannot wait to see what God will continue to do in their lives this next year.

One exciting opportunity coming up for parents at Shoreline is the Parenting Conference September 28-29. We want to encourage all parents to attend this conference as it will equip you to have intentional, gospel-centered conversations with your students about difficult topics they are exposed to on a daily basis. It is a video series led by Dr. Russell D. Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.

We are excited to kick off the start of the school year with some exciting events. If you have any questions about our upcoming events or anything related to youth, please feel free to contact me at bschultz@shorelinebaptist.org.

2018 Annual Financial Report

8/17/2018

This past year we made many changes in our church budget structure. We combined all of our ministry budgets into one church budget so that we can see what the actual cost of each category is, for example, we can now see what our total electricity usage is for the entire campus. This is now true for all categories so that going forward we can have a true picture of what we spend as a church. Since all of our operations are ministries of the church. We focused a lot of resources on beautification of both the inside and outside of our campus. Our general budget covered painting all of the upstairs and downstairs classrooms in the education building. Building a Legacy covered the outside of the entire campus, including some much needed repairs with the painting.

The overall financial picture for last year is good. We are expecting to be very close to our projected budget. We expect to end in the black by $5,000-$10,000. Our revenue is expected to be short by about $40,000 but we also reduced our expenses to match. We spent about $10,000 more on the building than we planned because the painting has gone faster than projected, and that amount was planned for this next year, so we will recover it after September.

Building a Legacy. We have brought in just over $125,000 and currently have spent $76,000. A new sign for the front of the building is in process and we hope to have it approved and in construction soon.

For 2018/19 we have increased salary cost projections to finally allow for some much needed raise for our awesome church and preschool staff. This new budget is still very conservative and we are optimistic that the revenue will surpass our plans, but we want to maintain a practice of preparing conservatively and spending carefully.

Telling others about Jesus is one of the greatest privileges and responsibilities of the Christian life.  2 Corinthians 5:18-20 tells us that God “has given us the ministry of reconciliation… and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”  If God has given us the ministry of reconciling people to Himself, we want to make sure we do the best we can.  Pastor Matt is going to offer a four week evangelism training class on Sundays this Fall, and everyone is invited to attend.  Childcare is provided.

Dates: Sunday, September 16- Sunday, October 7
Time: Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
Location: Shoreline Conference Room (Upstairs in B-210)

Christ Centered Parenting Conference

I am extremely excited about our Christ Centered Parenting Conference this Fall because the essence of Christian parenting is discipleship.  This conference is very much focused on how to disciple our kids while doing life together with them (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).  You will gain a lot of biblical guidance and practical wisdom to help you teach and relate to your kids.  Whether you have children now or you plan to have children at some point in the future, this conference will prepare and benefit you in the task of Christian parenting.  I also believe everyone, even those without children, could greatly benefit from the biblical worldview issues addressed in this conference.
Our task as Christian parents is to prepare our children to face the culture with confidence in the Lord and a clear understanding of His Word so that their thinking and character are shaped by the Lord and not the culture.  However, sometimes we may feel unprepared to address the many complex cultural issues our children are being faced with on a daily basis.  The Christ Centered Parenting Conference is designed to help you as a parent address issues your children are facing from a biblical worldview.  Topics include: gender, suicide, depression, anxiety, pornography, same-sex marriage, singleness, dating, marriage, and divorce.  As parents, we are always growing in our walk with the Lord and in our role as a parent, and this conference is designed to help us grow even more.

Date: Friday and Saturday September 28-29
Time: Friday 6:15-8:45 p.m. and Saturday 8:30-11:45 a.m.
Location: Fellowship Room (Upstairs B-204)
Cost: $10 per person (includes dinner, breakfast, and childcare)

Sports Fall Update

As summer turns to Autumn, as the leaves start to fall, as the weather turns a bit cooler, our thoughts naturally turn to… more basketball!
In September, we will launch our fall basketball program for approximately 200 children in ages K through high school; we will also lead a Fall volleyball clinic for more than 60 children. During both programs, we will share the gospel at every practice.
All through the fall, we will be preparing for our second year of involving Shoreline church members as Division parents to help connect our sports ministry parents and players to our church.
Our summer season involved many weeks of camps and programs that shared the gospel every day. During the course of the summer, we will have shared the gospel thousands of times to hundreds of campers. What a tremendous blessing and responsibility.
We were also blessed to travel to San Diego for a twelfth time to run sports camps for churches there. Each day, our sports camp workers led devotions that explained the gospel message to children from those communities. Eighteen of our strongest coaches worked this week and led the devotions. We also spent many hours in devotions with the workers, and we always see significant decisions made coming out of those intense sessions.
Thank you, as always, for your prayers.
