Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 We are all a part of the body of Christ. Just like the eye gives the gift of sight to bless the rest of the body, you were blessed by God with spiritual gifts to bless other people. God says you need church as much as the eye needs the hand, or the ear needs the foot. You need the church, and the church needs you. You are a gift to us, we are a gift to you, as a whole we are a gift to the world as we take the gospel to them.

Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 12:8-10; 28-30 A Christian has two purposes: to know and walk with Jesus, and help others know and walk with Jesus. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus, and God has given us spiritual gifts to aid us in our mission. Spiritual gifts are a special empowering of the Holy Spirit to serve God in a particular aspect of the mission and ministry of the church. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 Could you imagine things being so bad, when people come to church they leave worse off than when they came? That is what was happening at Corinth, specifically as it relates to the observance of the Lord’s Supper. We are worse off when we stray from the Word of God. The Lord’s Supper is a picture of the gospel, so it's important we get the picture right. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 10:14-11:1 The greatest temptation of life is not to violate some specific command. The greatest temptation of life is to worship created things rather than God who created all things. Essentially, Satan tempts us to get all of life wrong. His main strategy is to distort the true nature of God so we don’t worship the true God, but we worship a god of our imagination. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 7:7-9; 25-40 We are tempted to either elevate marriage above being single or to elevate being single above being married, but Paul says our ultimate goal and pursuit is to do the will of God. Whether we are married or single, our ultimate focus is not to be earthly circumstances which are passing away, but heavenly priorities which are eternal. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 5:1-13 This passage is about God’s standards for those of us who are a part of the church. Everyone, even pagans, have standards. We have standards for driving, we don’t let people drive drunk. We have standards for teaching, we don’t let sex offenders teach grade school. Paul says God has given the church standards as well, and the goal of the church is always redemptive. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 4:14-21 We want power and control, yet Jesus did the strangest of things. He laid His power aside for the sake of others. He laid His power aside and went to cross to die for our sins. Paul is saying it is that kind of view of power we are to have. We are to use our power or leadership not for self, but for the good of others. Sermon By: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 4:6-13 One of the big ideas of 1 Corinthians is biblical wisdom produces godly love and moral living. A biblical worldview causes us to love others the way God loves us and to live a life that honors God. The Corinthians were trying to honor themselves because they did not have a God-centered worldview, they had a man-centered worldview. Paul writes them to give them a biblical view of God, self, and others, which produces a greater love for God and passion for His glory. Sermon by: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 3:5-17 Every architect knows a great building must have a great foundation. A building is only as strong as its foundation. Paul says Christ is our foundation. The question is not what do I want, the question is what does God want? What God is doing in your life and in His church transcends the temporal. He is building for eternity. Sermon By: Pastor Matt Spradlin 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 The focus of the Bible is Jesus, and the whole Bible points to Jesus. The message of the church is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. If we put Christ in the center, like centrifugal force, He pulls everything to Him. Our job is to proclaim Christ and Him crucified. That is the only message that can save souls and transform lives. |
